The School for Field Studies: Tanzania Summer II
I’ve known that I wanted to study abroad in college ever since I found out it was a thing. After years of anticipation, months of narrowing down programs, and weeks of preparation, I was ready for a month in northern Tanzania. As a student at the School for Field Studies, I learned wildlife research techniques with 22 classmates from mid July to mid August. We spent a majority of our time on field trips, visiting national parks and local communities to gather information on flora, fauna, and human interaction. I chose this external program out of hundreds of other choices because it provided me with the opportunity to see if wildlife could be a part of my future career. Additionally, I wanted to be a part of a program in which I could visit an environment new to me, but that pertained to my interest in animal biology. Now that I am back in Cincinnati and continuing on the pre-vet track, I can definitely see a place for wildlife medicine, conservation, and/or research in my plans. With the many new like-minded friends that I made while abroad, I have a heightened desire to take action in these fields.
As my artifact for this experience, I have provided a video I have put together about my time abroad.
