Hi there! Welcome to Inside the Mind of Bahar Pahlevani, I'm Bahar Pahlevani. I am a Junior at the University of Cincinnati majoring in Animal Biology and minoring in Chemistry. I have adored animals for as long as my memory can take me back, and getting a cat (finally!) in the 7th grade pretty much cemented my desire to work with animals. Oh, what do I plan to do with that, exactly? Well, I'm glad you asked! At the moment I'm leaning toward applying to veterinary school, so I am working as a Veterinary Assistant at an Animal Hospital. This past year, I have also gotten to work with mice at Children's Hospital Medical Center, and soon I will be studying wildlife in Tanzania, ahhhhhh! However, I would still really like to explore the field even more, maybe by applying for experiences such as a Zoo internship or working with horses for the first time.
I have always been a person who has had interests across many different areas. I love being passionate about everything that I am involved in, but it really does make me panic about my future sometimes. I was even categorized into Region 99 when I took a career possibilities test before the PSAT, which basically means that my interests showed no clear path and they didn't know what to do with me. Scary, right? Well, it doesn't have to be. I plan on using this to my advantage throughout the rest of my life. I hope to continue steady involvement on campus and in the community to make a difference in a range organizations that matter to me while bringing interdisciplinary ideas into my career purpose. This past year, I continued to take part in organizations ranging from the UC Quidditch League to McMicken Ambassadors, and coming up, I will get closer to the teaching side of things by being an ATA for biology and ecology classes. The best part about trying new things to me is the excitement of meeting so many people who think in different ways, which I think helped is making me very enthusiastic about this opportunity.
Hopefully, I will be able to use all of the opportunities that UC provides to achieve the many goals that I have set for myself. Now that I am more comfortable with college, I feel like I can work them into my schedule rather than unnecessarily rushing into things. Now that I have the chance to study abroad(I actually love airports, is that weird? A good weird, I think) and I have some undergraduate research that I am really interested in under my belt, I would love to have the chance to move into every possible corner related to animal behavior to see if anything interests me even more. I've actually started reading a book on veterinary conservation that I'd like to delve into deeper. As for long term goals, I have a rather detailed vision: working with animals while writing a best-seliing book series and teaching piano to children alongside my part-time bakery. I know, I know, you're probably thinking "what is this, a circus act!?", but I am really excited to continue studying with dedication, getting over any potholes that may come along. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me!
